2. PARTICIPATION IN THE MOVEMENTS OF PATRIOTIC AND REVOLUTIONARY STRUGGLE

He has progressively got the patriotic consciousness and the feelings of love for the people as well as the hatred for the nation‘s and people‘s enemies through the accounts on the patriotic struggles waged during the French aggression before the 2nd World War, and by reading various progressive books.

  • 1940-48. During his studies, he took part in underground activities to organize groups of patriotic youth against the French and Japanese.
  • 1949-52. He took part in founding marxist-leninist groups among pupils and students and in the movement of struggle against the French colonialists.
  • 1953-54. He participated in the armed struggle in the maquis as fighter charged with the task of cooking and production work.
  • 1954-60. He was responsible for the revolutionary work in Phnom Penh and a part of the countryside. He took part in the responsibilities for the work among pupils, students and intellectuals, among workers and city laborers, among monks and patriotic personages.
  • 1957-59. He participated in the Committee in charge of elaborating the Party‘s political line and Statutes and of preparing the 1st Congress of the Party for the founding of the Communist Party of Kampuchea.
  • 1960. He has been elected member of the Central Committee and member of the Permanent Committee of the Central Committee by the 1st Congress of the Communist Party of Kampuchea (September).
  • 1961. He was Deputy Secretary of the Permanent Committee of the Central Committee.
  • 1963. He was elected Secretary of the Permanent Committee of the Central Committee by the 2nd Congress of the Communist Party of Kampuchea.
  • 1963-67. Activities in the countryside: He participated in creating the revolutionary bases, in creating and organizing the underground guards and guerrilla forces. He participated in starting the peasants‘ revolutionary struggle movements under all forms of struggle and by using revolutionary, in parallel direction with the revolutionary struggle in the cities.
  • 1968-March 1970. He was also Secretary of the North-Eastern Zone and at the same time participated in directing the guerrilla war waged against the counter-revolutionary repressive war of the traitorous Lon Nol clique, lackeys of the U.S. imperialists.
  • 1970-75.
    • He was again appointed Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kampuchea (September 1971).
    • Chairman of the Military Commission of the Central Committee of the Party.
    • He received the direct responsibilities of the affairs of the Party and of the military affairs.
    • Chairman of the Command Committee of the military fronts all over the country.
  • From 1976 up to now.
    • He has been appointed Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Kampuchea by the Communist Party of Kampuchea‘s 4th Congress (January 1976).
    • Chairman of the Military Commission of the Central Committee of the Party.
    • Responsible for the economic affairs and the work in the countryside.

3. TEMPER

  • Has a large spirit of union.
  • Shows revolutionary optimism.
  • Is deeply and firmly confident in the people, the masses, especially in the poor peasants.
  • Likes to live and work in the calm.
