LONG LIVE RED MAY DAY!
May Day is the day on which the world proletariat expresses its fighting determination. It is on this day that the proletariat assesses its balance of forces and mobilises its entire strength to tirelessly fight with further determination for freedom, independence, equality and sovereignty. On this day, it pledges to struggle for the success of the proletarian revolution in all countries and thus that of the socialist world revolution. On the occasion of May Day, we convey red greetings to the world proletariat which is relentlessly fighting against imperialism.
It is the nature of imperialism to destroy the world, the environment and the people. It stays alive only by means of persistent destruction. Imperialism created the destructive corona virus, it is restructuring the economies as part of its policies of globalisation in order to overcome its economic and financial crisis, and it is putting the entire burden on the shoulders of the people. It is collaborating with the comprador-bureaucratic bourgeoisie and big landlord classes of the backward countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America, and is indiscriminately looting natural resources, cheap labour forces and markets in the name of capital and technology by means of forcible and unequal agreements. However, it is not recovering from the crisis. Depression, inflation and unemployment have intensified. The entire life of the people, including health and education, is in crisis, and people are facing extreme difficulties. The disparity between the rich and the poor is increasing. The war-dependent U.S. economy is instigating numerous wars and selling arms across the entire world for the sake of its super-profits. Life has turned terrible and the people are rebelling. Imperialism is propping up fascist forces to suppress them. Due to the destructive policies applied by imperialism, the fundamental contradictions at the international and domestic levels are intensifying and thus the revolutionary situation is developing.
1. THE CONTRADICTION BETWEEN IMPERIALISM AND THE OPPRESSED NATIONALITIES AND PEOPLE
The people of several backward countries are daring to struggle against imperialist globalisation and governments which do not provide employment, education, healthcare and other such basic facilities and cause soaring prices. The oppressed nationalities are fighting against national oppression. The retreat of U.S. armed forces which have been oppressing Afghanistan for the past 20 years is one of the important developments in the past year. The U.S. faced defeat in Afghanistan in 2021, like it faced in Vietnam in 1975. These developments show that if the people fight with firm determination, the modern imperialist armies cannot keep up. For example in India, militant struggles are being waged by various oppressed classes, strata, tribal people and oppressed nationalities against the neo-liberal, corporate-sponsored policies of the Brahmanic-Hindutva Modi Government. The workers are fighting as one against the «Four Codes» implemented instead of labour laws, and against privatisation, the casual-contract system, artificial intelligence, the working burden on the workers, the rising working hours, the fall in real wages, the terrible working conditions and the cuts on welfare programmes and for minimum wages and guaranteed employment. The unprecedented country-wide strike observed by the trade unions on the 28th and 29th of March with the broad support of farmers’ organisations is an indication of worker-peasant unity.
2. THE CONTRADICTION BETWEEN THE BOURGEOISIE AND THE PROLETARIAT IN THE IMPERIALIST COUNTRIES
Imperialism is exploiting the proletariat and the middle class in order to overcome its crisis. It is utilising artificial-intelligence technology and is making cuts on reliable jobs and welfare programmes. It is putting extreme tax burdens on the people. Covid restrictions left over from the corona crisis, loss of jobs, longer working hours, decreasing wages and high prices are leading the proletariat, employees, students and environmental activists into large-scale agitation and strikes. Workers’ demonstrations are taking a militant form in several countries.
3. THE CONTRADICTIONS AMONG THE IMPERIALIST COUNTRIES
The new U.S. President Joe Biden is taking and implementing the most aggressive decisions in order to sustain the declining world hegemony of the USA. U.S. imperialism has sustained its hegemony of the NATO and G7 countries in order to control Russia and China, which are emerging as imperialist contenders, and it has strengthened the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue and formed the Australia-U.K.-U.S. security pact (AUKUS). But Europe is not in a condition to cooperate with the USA. Germany and France are dependent on oil and gas imports from Russia. On the other hand, intervening in the affairs of Taiwan, the competing military exercises carried out by China and the USA in the Taiwan Strait are becoming more and more dangerous. Russia and China have signed an agreement on military cooperation. The tensions and conflicts between the imperialist countries have reached an unprecedentedly intense level, not seen since the end of the Cold War. As part of this process, Russia has indulged in a war of aggression on Ukraine. The USA has broken its promises to Russia and expanded NATO by means of force or trickery to include more than 30 countries; it has announced that Ukraine, which is Europe’s third-biggest military force, would join NATO; it has carried out joint military exercises with Ukraine; and it has deployed its military forces, warships and missiles in support of Ukraine. In response to this, Russia has deployed an army of 150,000 troops on the borders of Ukraine, the imperialist contradictions spilled over, and a Russian war of aggression on Ukraine has broken out. This has continued to develop in a destructive manner for two months now. Talks between Russia and Ukraine on the 12th of April failed. The war will undoubtedly lead to further destruction. It shall push the people into unbearable oppressions and crisis. The world proletariat and other oppressed classes and nationalities are suffering due to the games of the imperialist countries for their economic and hegemonic interests. The danger of a 3rd World War is looming.
The war which broke out in the form of a Russian war of aggression on Ukraine is an imperialist war. Ukraine is bait in the hands of the USA. We call upon the workers, peasants, middle classes and other oppressed classes and nationalities to condemn the war. We call upon the world proletariat, the oppressed classes and nationalities to uphold the teachings of Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels: «The workers have no country. […] the communists everywhere support every revolutionary movement against the existing social and political order of things. […] Proletarians of all countries, unite!» And the teaching of the great Marxist teacher Lenin: «A proletariat which supports either horde of imperialist beasts of prey cannot be a socialist proletariat.» We shall not take the side of any imperialist country in the war. The people all over the world are waging militant struggles to demand withdrawal from NATO, which is under U.S. leadership, and they fight back against the destructive measures applied by the USA in order to sustain its declining world hegemony by making Ukraine a scapegoat. Russia must immediately and unconditionally stop its war on Ukraine and withdraw its armed forces as per the aspirations of the people of the world. The revolutionary situation is developing. It is the task of the world proletariat to utilise it and intensify the anti-imperialist struggle. It must thus mount pressure on the Putin Government. If Russia indulges in nuclear war and starts a 3rd World War, the Russian proletariat must learn from the great experience of the victory of the October Revolution won by all the oppressed classes and nationalities under the leadership of the proletariat headed by Comrades Lenin and Stalin in 1917 by transforming the 1st World War into a civil war, and upholding its legacy, must bring down the Putin Government. It must establish a new and higher form of socialist government under the leadership of the proletariat. The proletariat and oppressed people of the USA and the European countries must lead militant movements under the leadership of the proletariat, demanding a stop to the instigation of Ukraine in this war. If the U.S.-NATO alliance indulges in a 3rd World War, it must be transformed into civil war. Similarly, the proletariat of the new social-imperialist power China must teach it a lesson.
We appeal to the world proletariat and oppressed people to protect the people of Ukraine fleeing to other areas as refugees with a humanitarian perspective. The proletariat and oppressed people of Ukraine must condemn the pro-NATO and especially the pro-U.S. and pro-E.U. imperialist policies of the Zelenskyj Government which have turned the country into a satellite of NATO, especially of the U.S. imperialists. They must transform the imperialist-imposed war into civil war in order to protect the sovereignty of their country and so that their nationality may survive. The oppressed people of Ukraine must fight against all kinds of imperialism under the leadership of the proletariat of the country and achieve sovereignty. The oppressed nationalities and people of the Republics of Donetsk and Luhansk in the Don Basin must achieve their future by relying on their own forces under the leadership of the proletariat, and not by relying on Russian imperialism. The people of the backward countries must fight for the annulment of all kinds of agreements, including military agreements, made by the comprador governments with the imperialist countries. The only path and the immediate task for the world proletariat and the Marxist-Leninist-Maoist forces in achieving liberation from imperialist exploitation and oppression and establishing world peace is to sweep imperialism off the face of the Earth and establish socialism, where there is no room for war.
In order to fulfill this task, it is necessary to establish an appropriate international revolutionary proletarian organisation according to the present concrete conditions. In recent times, the vanguard groups and organisations of the world are taking up the demands of the toiling people and are gradually consolidating, so as to provide unified leadership to the socialist and new-democratic revolutions and the national liberation struggles in the direction of the liberation of the toiling people. Unity and solidarity are developing among them. It is a welcome development that some Maoist organisations have agreed to the necessity of building an International Forum and have requested immediately taking measures in this direction. This indicates the developing subjective strength of the world proletariat. Based on this, let us try to establish unified international forums with a specific plan to provide unified leadership to fight back against all kinds of imperialist offensives and wars, to establish world peace, especially in Ukraine, and to support the anti-imperialist struggles.
