Proletarians of all countries, unite!
There is one goal, the conquest of power!
NOTE OF THE EDITORIAL BOARD FOR MAO TSE-TUNG‘S 128TH BIRTHDAY
Colleagues and friends,
On the occasion of Chairman Mao‘s 128th birthday, we would like to draw your attention to the recently completed section of our website archive, Works of Chairman Mao Tse-tung, as well as the new page of our website of the same name.
On the section Works of Chairman Mao Tse-tung, you will be able to find, in text format, every single work by Mao Tse-tung which has ever been published on the Internet in text format. All of these texts have not only been transferred to our archive — their translation and formatting have been thoroughly corrected so as to live up to our high editorial standards. In particular, we emphasize the following documents which we have reproduced, containing quotations from Mao, which serve as a good introduction to studying marxism-leninism-maoism:
- Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse-tung.
- Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse-tung on People‘s War.
- Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse-tung on Party Building.
- Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse-tung on Continuing the Revolution Under the Dictatorship of the Proletariat.
- Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse-tung on the Youth Movement.
- Quotations from Chairman Mao Tse-tung on Opposing Economism.
On the page Works of Chairman Mao Tse-tung, you will be able to find, in PDF format, every single book containing the writings of Mao Tse-tung ever published — with some few exceptions due to file sizes, which we are currently working on fixing.
In the future, we will publish the Chinese language Collected Works of Mao Tse-tung and work to translate these into English. These will be possible to find on the newly created Chinese language section of our website when they are reproduced.
As communists, that is to say, as militants adhering to marxism-leninism-maoism, the proletarian ideology of today, we have a duty to study the works of the most important communist leaders throughout history: Marx, Engels, Lenin, Stalin, Mao and Gonzalo, in a living way and with the sole purpose of applying their principles creatively to the concrete conditions under which we find ourselves, to make the revolution in this country and through this contributing to the birth of a new and better world. Therefore, we particularly emphasize the study of Mao Tse-tung‘s works and writings. Of the six classics of marxism mentioned above, three stand out: Marx, who founded our doctrine; Lenin, who led the October Revolution, the only „blueprint“ for the revolution in the imperialist countries; and Mao, the highest peak of communism until today. These are their roles and nobody can be allowed to undermine them or attempt to counterpose them to one another, or to counterpose any of the creators of marxism to their successors, and in particular not to counterpose the late Chairman Gonzalo to Mao Tse-tung.
We reaffirm the definition of maoism, given by Chairman Gonzalo as part of his scientific synthesis of it as a new, third and higher stage of working-class thought:
„In the furnace of class struggle, the ideology of the international proletariat emerged as marxism, afterwards developed into marxism-leninism and later marxism-leninism-maoism. Therefore, the scientific ideology of the proletariat, all-powerful because it is true, has three stages or landmarks in its dialectical process of development: 1) marxism, 2) leninism, and 3) maoism. These three stages are part of the same unity which began with the Communist Manifesto 140 years ago, with the heroic epic of the class struggle, in fierce and fruitful two-line struggles within the Communist Parties themselves and in the work of the titans of thought and action that only the working class could generate. Today, three unfading lights are outstanding: Marx, Lenin, and Mao Tse-tung who, through three grand leaps, have armed us with the invincible ideology of marxism-leninism-maoism, which today is mainly maoism.
What is fundamental in maoism? Political power is fundamental in maoism. Political power for the proletariat, power for the dictatorship of the proletariat, power based on an armed force directed by the Communist Party. More explicitly:
1) Political power under the leadership of the proletariat in the democratic revolution.
2) Political power for the dictatorship of the proletariat in the socialist and cultural revolutions.
3) Political power based on an armed force directed by the Communist Party, conquered and defended through people‘s war.
And, what is maoism? Maoism is the elevation of marxism-leninism to a new, third, and superior stage in the struggle for proletarian leadership of the democratic revolution, the development of the construction of socialism and the continuation of the revolution under the proletarian dictatorship as a proletarian cultural revolution; when imperialism deepens its decomposition and revolution has become the main tendency of history, amidst the most complex and largest wars seen to date and the implacable struggle against contemporary revisionism.“Chairman Gonzalo: „On Marxism-Leninism-Maoism“ (1988)
The importance of maoism is enormous for the socialist revolution in Switzerland. Moreover, marxism-leninism-maoism can only be grasped by applying the works of Chairman Gonzalo, who defined and synthesized maoism, and whose thought is the only systematized contribution to the fourth stage of marxism, which will inevitably arise in the coming decades. What the Swiss revolution needs is a guiding thought, which integrates the universal truth of the communist doctrine with the concrete reality of Switzerland. The guiding thought of the Peruvian revolution, represented in Chairman Gonzalo‘s works, contain many universally valid aspects which apply to Switzerland. Therefore, in the present work to identify, retake and further develop the historic guiding thought of the Swiss revolution, formed by Leonie Kascher and Jakob Herzog, we need to mainly learn from Chairman Gonzalo, so that the universal aspects of his thought may become part of the guiding thought of the Swiss revolution. Therefore, we are guided by marxism-leninism-maoism-Gonzalo thought today, while tomorrow we will be guided by marxism-leninism-maoism and our guiding thought. On this topic, we refer our readers to two documents of the Communist Party of Switzerland (Red Faction), previously published on The Red Flag:
- „Identify, Retake and Develop the Guiding Thought of the Party!“
- „Fragments Concerning Guiding Thought“, 2nd Edition.
These documents no longer reflect the views of the Swiss communists in all details, but they remain generally valid and important contributions to the process of refounding the Communist Party of Switzerland.
In summarizing the importance of marxist theory for the world revolution, Mao Tse-tung said:
„Marxism consists of thousands of truths, but they all boil down to the one sentence: ‚It is right to rebel.‘ For thousands of years everyone said: ‚It is right to oppress, it is right to exploit, it is not right to rebel.‘ From the time that marxism appeared on the scene, this old judgment was turned upside down, and this is a great contribution. This principle was derived by the proletariat from its struggles, but Marx drew the conclusion. And from this truth there follows resistance, struggle, the fight for socialism.“Chairman Mao Tse-tung: „It Is Right to Rebel!“ (21.12.1939)
This truth is of great significance. With marxism, our rebellion receives guidance and purpose, and it becomes possible to resist, to struggle and to fight for the realization of socialism and communism in the world. But this requires unity based on principles. Mao Tse-tung rightfully said:
„I hope that you will practice marxism and not revisionism; that you will unite and not split; that you will be sincere and open and not resort to plotting and conspiracy.“Chairman Mao Tse-tung: „Talks with Responsible Comrades at Various Places During Provincial Tour“ (Middle of August to 12.09.1971)
We hope that the colleagues and friends of the Swiss revolution who read our website will take this opportunity to study the works of Mao Tse-tung more intensively, since large amounts of them have now been made available in English on The Red Flag. As Lenin pointed out:
„Without revolutionary theory, there can be no revolutionary movement.“V. I. Lenin: „What Is To Be Done?“ (End of 1901-February 1902)
We take this opportunity of Mao‘s birthday to greet the genuine communists and revolutionaries of the entire world, in particular the comrades of the Communist Party of the Philippines, whose 53rd Party anniversary falls on this day.
