This is an order to the Chinese People's Volunteer Army drafted by Comrade Mao Zedong for the Revolutionary Military Commission of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on the 8th of October, 1950. It was first published in the Selected Works of Mao Zedong, Vol. 5, in 1977.

In order to support the Korean people's war of liberation and to resist the attacks of US imperialism and its lackeys, thereby safeguarding the interests of the people of Korea, China, and all the other countries in Asia, I hereby order the Chinese People's Volunteer Army to march speedily to Korea and join the Korean comrades in fighting the aggressors and winning a glorious victory.

The Chinese People's Volunteer Army will have under its command the 13th Army, with its subordinate 38th, 39th, 40th, and 42nd Corps, and the Frontier Defence Artillery Headquarters, with its subordinate First, Second, and Eighth Divisions. The above units must complete their preparations promptly and await orders to set off.

Comrade Peng Dehuai is appointed Commander and concurrently Political Commissar of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army.

The Chinese People's Volunteer Army will have the North-Eastern Administrative Area as its general rear base, and all real work, supplies, and matters in connection with assistance to the Korean comrades are to be under the management and direction of, and to be guaranteed by, Comrade Gao Gang, Commander and concurrently Political Commissar of the North-Eastern Military Area.

While in Korea, the Chinese People's Volunteer Army must show fraternal feelings and respect for the people, the People's Army, the Democratic Government, the Workers' Party, and the other democratic political parties of Korea, as well as for Comrade Kim Il Sung, the leader of the Korean people, and strictly observe military and political discipline. This is a most important political basis for ensuring the fulfilment of your military task.

You must fully anticipate various possible and inevitable difficulties and be prepared to overcome them with great enthusiasm, courage, care, and stamina. At present, the international and domestic situation as a whole is favourable to us, not to the aggressors. So long as you comrades are firm and brave and are good at uniting with the people there and at fighting the aggressors, final victory will be ours.
